THE EAST END OF LONG ISLAND, NY — September 19, 2011 — HARVEST: Wine Auction and Celebration of Long Island’s East End, presented by FOOD & WINE, concluded on Saturday, September 17, with a live auction of Long Island wines and experiences. The auction raised $31,000, 100% of which will go to the three HARVEST beneficiaries: East End Hospice, Group for the East End and the Peconic Land Trust. Charles Antin, Associate Vice President and Wine Specialist at Christie’s, presided over the auction, which is the only auction of only Long Island wine.
“HARVEST was a wonderful gathering of more than 1,100 food-and-wine lovers, including Top Chef alum Carla Hall of ABC’s The Chew and New York Mets analyst and former first baseman Keith Hernandez at the Festival Tasting and Harvest Moon Gala,” said Roman Roth, event chair of HARVEST EAST END, executive vice president of organizer, the Long Island Merlot Alliance, and winemaker and technical director at Wölffer Estate Vineyard.
“The highlight of the HARVEST was a fun and spirited live auction,” Roman added. “We are proud to be able to raise money to benefit the land, environment and people that make the East End of Long Island a great place to make wine. We salute our generous auction donors and bidders, and talented auctioneer, Charles Antin.”
The highest bid ($5,000) of the evening went for a four-day, three-night stay for two in Bermuda, contributed by the Bermuda Department of Tourism. The package includes airfare and three bottles of Long Island wine in the winner’s hotel room upon arrival—a taste of home in Bermuda.
The second-highest bid ($4,500) went for the lot contributed by Shinn Estate Vineyards, including a wine-pairing dinner for 12 at the Shinn Farmhouse by and with Top Chef Tom Colicchio and Shinn vintner and chef David Page.
Wölffer Estate Vineyards’ “progressive dinner” package drew the third-highest bid ($3,800). The lot includes a private cellar tour and tasting at the winery, dinner at Montauk’s South Edison and a sing-along with winemaker Roman Roth at The American Hotel in Sag Harbor.

“HARVEST is a great community effort, bringing together our charity partners, local food, local wine and our neighbors across the East End,” Roman observed. “It’s a true representation of our fall harvest bounty.”
